Sutab Frequently Asked Questions

Read the Medication Guide and Instructions for Use provided by your pharmacist before you start using this product and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Follow any special diet instructions provided by your doctor. Usually, you may have a small breakfast on the day before your procedure. After breakfast, you may only drink clear liquids until after your procedure. Do not drink milk or alcoholic beverages or eat/drink anything colored red or purple. To prevent becoming dehydrated, drink as much clear liquid as you can before, during, and after taking this medication unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Do not take any other medications by mouth within 1 hour of taking a dose of this product. This product also contains magnesium, which may bind with certain medications (including iron, tetracycline antibiotics, fluoroquinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin), preventing their full absorption. Ask your doctor or pharmacist about rescheduling your other medications while you are taking this product.

Use this product as directed by your doctor, usually one dose the evening before the colonoscopy and the second dose the next day in the morning. This product contains 2 bottles of medication. Each bottle contains one dose of the medication. Before taking your first dose, discard the desiccant (drying agent) found in both of the bottles.

Before taking each dose, fill the provided container with water up to the fill line and use the water to take your dose of the medication. Finish drinking the whole amount of water over 15 to 20 minutes. About an hour after taking the dose of your medication, drink another container filled with water over 30 minutes. About 30 minutes after finishing your second container of water, drink another container filled with water over 30 minutes. Be sure to finish taking your dose of the medication and required water at least 2 hours before your procedure, or as directed.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about how to take this product or what to expect after taking this product.

If severe bloating, nausea, or abdominal pain occurs, drink the water more slowly or temporarily stop drinking the water until the symptoms improve.
